Gilbert Kingan Obituary

Gilbert “Sonny” Wayne Kingan age 80, of Smithfield went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, February 18, 2019 in Mt Macrina Manor, Uniontown, PA with his loving family by his side. He was born in Smithfield, on November 26, 1938. a son of Harry Edgar and Frances “Jenny” Moody Kingan.

Sonny was a member of Ss Cyril & Methodius Roman Catholic Church of Fairchance where he was a Eucharistic minister.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his grandson, Aaron Long; son-law, Joseph Long; sister, Melrose Rishel.

Sonny graduated from Masontown High School and worked at Anchor Hocking in Connellsville. He volunteered as an ambulance driver and volunteer fireman in Smithfield. In 1996 he was a volunteer food worker for Uniontown Food Bank and received the Volunteer of the Year Award presented by Boyd Wolf, Secretary of Agriculture and Govenor Casey. Gil enjoyed working with his computer and telling stories to his great grand children.

Sonny is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Carol Steiner Kingan, children: Albert Kingan and his wife Jan, Barbara Long of Connellsville, Patricia Sines and her husband Ed of Smithfield, Diane Conover and her husband Richard of Pittsburgh; seven grandchildren: Crystal, Eddie, Eric, Kathleen, Adam, Madelyn, Anna; eight great grandchildren: Caden, William, Mason, Logan, Amyiah, Anessia, Elizabeth, Sophie.

Gilbert’s family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, February 20, 2019 and 6-8 p.m. on Thursday in the Goldsboro-Fabry Funeral Home, Inc., 21 E. Church Street, Fairchance, PA. where Prayers of Transfer will be said at 9:30 a.m. Friday followed by a Funeral Mass in Ss. Cyril & Methodious R. C. Church, Fairchance, PA with Father Gade Show Reddy, as Celebrant.  Interment will follow in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Smithfield, PA.

The Christian Mothers will have a Rosary Service at the funeral home at 4 p.m. on Thursday.

The family would like thank the staff of Mt Macrina and Amedisys Hospice for their outstanding service.
