Bowlen III, Harry, 70, of Fairchance, PA passed away Friday, March 3, 2017 at UPMC Montefore. He was born in Fairchance, PA on September 12, 1946, son of Harry Jr and Adeline (Harbarger) Bowlen.
Harry was well known throughout Cooley town as "Donner," and was also righteously coined the "Camoman." His passion for archery hunting in the mountains ran deep within him. He enjoyed many years of archery league with his good friend, Kevin Polish at Kevin's Archery, Carmichaels, Pa, where he prided himself in collecting every hat Kevin produced. Harry was a very dedicated father and grandfather who spent lots of time in Florida with his girls.
Upon completing high school, Harry entered the United States Army, where he proudly served for 6 years. In 1971, he was called to his first position in the coal mine. Harry worked his first 5 years at Duquesne Light. From there he spent the next 32 years at Cumberland Mine, finishing his career as Long Wall Coordinator. He happily retired in 2009. He was a member of St Paul's Lutheran Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Cameron J. Bowlen.
He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years Susan (Tate) Bowlen, and two children: Scott Alan Bowlen and fiancée Jessica Friend of Fairchance, Pa and Rachel Claire Bowlen (Serrano) of Wellington, Florida; four grandchildren who adored their Pap Pap: Tyler Scott Bowlen and Bella Friend, of Fairchance, Pa; Sydney Elizabeth and Savannah Brooke Serrano, of Wellington, Florida. He also had 4 grand puppies and 8 grand horses that loved their Pap Pap.
Harry is survived by five sisters, Gladys (George) Bowman, JoAnne (William) Walters, Jean (William) Yauger, Vivian (Charles) Bricker, Donna Rae (Gary) Nicklow, and one brother, Thomas Bowlen. He also had numerous nieces and nephews.
Harry is also survived by his best friend and hunting partner Kenny (Twila) Chapman.
Harry's family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 pm on Monday, March 6, 2017 in the Goldsboro-Fabry Funeral Home, Inc. at 21 E. Church Street, Fairchance, PA, where his funeral service will take place at 11 am on Tuesday, March 7, 2017 with Rev. Kevin Anderson, officiating. Interment to follow at Mountain View Memorial Park, Brownfield, PA with Full Military Rites and Honors accorded by the General George C. Marshall Amvets Post 103 of Hopwood, PA.
