Joseph Herbert Meredith, 91 of Uniontown, PA passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 4, 2026 with loving family at his side as he went to be with the Lord. He was born April 17, 1934 in Marion, VA, a son of Jim and Bessie Ferguson Meredith.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Dorothy (Dee) Strauser Meredith; son, Joseph (Buddy) Meredith; a very special nephew, Donald J. Strauser; all 9 of his siblings.
He is survived by his loving children: Roger Meredith (Debbie Horn) and Carol Yvonne Ghafir; 5 grandchildren & 4 great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and great nieces and great nephews; a very special niece, Jodie Strauser Fuge who made her home with “Uncle Joe and Aunt DeeDee” for many of her formative years. Sharon (Donald) Strauser and their children: Harry, Donnie, Pete, Amy and Michele also held a cherished place in Joe’s life. He was beloved by all is family.
Joe and Dee had an extraordinary gift for making everyone feel like family. Everyone was greeted with a hug and a kiss. Their home was always open, their hearts welcoming, and their love unconditional. Everyone was treated as true family. They were cherished and adored by all.
As a young man, Joe worked as a mason. Later, he moved to Cleveland to find work to support his family, building a better life for them. He proudly worked at GM for 30 years. An amazing dancer, he also enjoyed riding his motorcycle, playing guitar and checkers, hunting and fishing.
After retirement, he moved to Pennsylvania and began a second career as a school bus driver and drove for many years. Joe had a special gift with elementary school aged children-kids adored him and he truly loved bringing joy, laughter and kindness to every ride.
Joe was very entertaining. Uncle Joe may have been best know for is fantastical stories and “tall tales” as well as his many one liners, quick wit and deep love for animals. He was a devoted member of Grace Community Church and loving care giver to his wife, Dee for many years.
Joe’s smile and Southern Charm continued to draw the affections of many. His legacy of kindness, humor, warmth and boundless love will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
The family would like to thank Dr. Goisse and her staff for the excellent care received for so many years and the Uniontown Amedisys Hospice Care Team for their loving and compassionate care.
Family and friends will be received from 4-8 PM on Thursday, February 12, 2026 at Goldsboro-Fabry Funeral Home Inc., 21 East Church Street, Fairchance, Pa and will continue at 10 AM Friday, until the hour the hour of service at 11 AM with Pastor Harry Strauser, officiating.
