Paul Milsom, age 86, of Columbus, Ohio and formerly of Fairchance, Pa., died on Saturday July 20, 2013, at his home surrounded by his family.
He is preceded in death by parents, Elmer and Katie (Ainsley) Milsom; brothers, James and Jimmy Milsom; sister, Elma Cole.
He is survived by his wife, Teresa (Yauger) Milsom; daughter, Paula (Jeff Johnson) Milsom Brown; son, Paul (Jacqueline) Milsom II; grandchildren, Zachary Brown, Alex Brown and Alexandria Toothman; brother, George Milsom.
Paul worked for the City of Youngstown in various positions, including serving as one of the original security personnel at the Youngstown Airport. He attended Youngstown State University.
Paul had a wonderful childhood filled with cherished memories of adventures with siblings and his dear mother, with whom he spent countless hours growing fruits and vegetables to provide fresh produce to his family and community. Through this, he learned valuable lessons about hard work and appreciation for nature which he shared with his children. Paul had several close calls with death from infancy to late in life. He always beat the odds and was known as the 'comeback kid'. He was able to draw upon inner strength and determination to persevere through incredible challenges.
Paul had a deep sense of adventure. Growing up in the Laurel Caverns of Fayette County (Pa.), he would hike the mountains, swim, and fish in the lakes and streams. He extensively explored the caves in the Laurel Highlands Region.
Paul had a great love for his wife, Teresa, who was the center of his life for 63-years of marriage. Even as he neared death his only concern was for Teresa's well being. He held on to life so hard because he could not bear leaving her.
Paul will be deeply missed by his family and friends. He was a very caring person with a tremendous sense of humor. He was a good provider who always put his family's needs before his own. Through the way he conducted his life, he provided an excellent example of the importance of having integrity and values.
