Stanley A. Smith, age 86 of Pleasant Hills, PA died Thursday January 8, 2015 at his home with his loving family by his side. He was born June 21, 1928 in Snowden Twp., PA, a son of John and Barbara Evanisky Smith.
In addition to his parents Stan was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Marjorie Noble Smith who died January 11, 2014, brothers: John and Joseph Smith and sister Agnes Dolinar.
Surviving are his daughters: Roberta Hemminger and her husband Gary of Elizabeth, PA and JoAnn Heigl and her companion Gary Mayberry of Harrisburg, PA; sons: Art Smith and his wife Ursula of Elizabeth, PA and Joey Smith of Pittsburgh, PA; 3 grandchildren: Jackie and her husband Ian Workman, Nicki Friday and her husband Ryan and A. J. Smith and his wife Jenny; 4 great grandchildren: Mason and Cheyanne Smith, Lily Workman and Mila Friday; brother: Thomas Smith and his wife Nancy of South Park Twp., sister, Ledwina "Pinky" Fircak of Eighty Four, PA; also several nieces and nephews.
Stan proudly served his country in the Army during WWII. He was a Borough of Pleasant Hills Policeman for forty years serving as Police Chief from 1976 until his retirement in 1992. He continued serving the Borough of Pleasant Hills as Mayor for a four year term. He was a member and Elder of the Pleasant Hills Community Presbyterian Church. Stan was a member of the Pleasant Hills-Guthrie Lodge #509, Scottish Rite Valley of Pittsburgh and Syria Shrine. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 712, F. O. P. Lodge 91, Western Pennsylvania Chiefs of Police Association, Allegheny County Chiefs of Police Association, Pennsylvania Chiefs of Police Association, Borough and Township Police Association. He was a graduate of the F.B.I. National Academy and the Pennsylvania State Police Academy.
Stan's family will receive friends on Tuesday, January 13, 2015 from 2-4 and 6-9 pm at the Griffith Funeral Home, 5636 Brownsville Road, Pittsburgh (Curry - Broughton - South Park Twp.) PA. A funeral service will take place on Wednesday at 11am in the Pleasant Hills Community Presbyterian Church 199 Old Clairton Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15236 with Rev. Kristin Beckstrom Widrich, officiating (EVERYONE PLEASE MEET AT THE CHURCH) interment will follow in Jefferson Memorial Park with full military honors accorded by the South Hills Honor Guard. The family requests that memorial contributions be made in Stan's name to The Pleasant Hills Community Presbyterian Church. A Masonic Funeral Service will we held at the Funeral Home at 6 pm, Tuesday evening. Professional funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Goldsboro-Fabry Funeral Home, Inc., John M. Fabry, Supervisor.
