The Lord called Virginia Elizabeth (Romesburg) Robinson home January 9th, 2021, while she was in the comfort of her home with her loving family by her side. She was born Oct. 29, 1921 on Liberty Street in Smithfield, Pennsylvania, to James and Elizabeth (Wilson) Romesburg.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her two brothers Paul J. and James A. Romesburg.
Virginia graduated from Georges Township High School in 1939 and from California State Teachers’ College of PA in ’43. On September 30, 1944 she married the love of her life, Clarence “Jimmy” F. Robinson in Montgomery, Alabama. Jimmy was assigned to Craig Field in Selma, Alabama as a Lieutenant with the United States Air Corps. Together they moved within the United States, Panama and Canada through assignments with the US Air Force, to which Jimmy had transferred when the branch was formed in 1947. She took up the sports of curling and skiing while in Canada. In 1966 they returned to Fayette County to settle on the family farm. Virginia taught in the Albert Gallatin School District, dedicating much of her career to teaching 2nd grade at Smithfield Elementary. She enjoyed teaching and her impact was evident as former students recognized her in public spaces and stopped to chat and catch up with one of their favorite teachers.
In addition to teaching, Virginia enjoyed life on the farm, helping to raise Angus cattle, tending to pets, gardening, taking on a variety of home improvement projects, rug hooking, toll house painting, and cheering on her favorite sports teams including the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Pirates and Penn State’s Nittany Lions. Family was most important to her and she enjoyed the time spent with her loved ones, making countless memories.
Virginia is survived by her husband of 76 years, retired United States Air Force Lieutenant Colonel Clarence “Jimmy” F. Robinson, sons Thomas and Peter (Patty) Robinson and daughter Jamie all of Smithfield, Pennsylvania, grandchildren Elizabeth (Michael) Schneider of Eighty Four, Pennsylvania, Michael Robinson of Greenville, South Carolina, and James (Sara) Robinson of North Canton, Ohio, step granddaughter Laura (Glenn) Smith of Smithfield, Pennsylvania, great grandchildren Alexander, Liam and Karina Schneider, Adelyn and Aiden Robinson, and step great grandchildren Grayson, Caroline, Ryan and Rhys Smith.
